Our loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, age 78 years.
Robert was born on March 4, 1946, son of the late Jose and Luz (Roa) Lopez, in Saginaw, Michigan. He attended catholic schools until he graduated from St. Joseph High School. Robert was a dedicated member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He later joined the Isadora Club as their Secretary; he was very active in the fundraising of any event, especially selling the raffle tickets; he worked in the parish hall preparing dinners for the shut-in, the annual festival, and for funeral luncheons; he even became the best Pie Crust maker. You could always count on Robert to lend a helping hand cooking, cleaning, and serving GOD through his tireless labor. In his youth he served as an altar boy, he had a newspaper route which he was proud of, and also a butcher at a meat market. At the age of 18, he became employed with General Motors Grey Iron Plant where he retired after 46 years of service. He was member of the U.A.W. Local #668 and the Knights of Columbus. He married Irma Guerra on March 6, 1964. In their union of 49 years of marriage, together, they created the Lopez legacy. She predeceased him on April 24, 2013. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, watching all Michigan sports, traveling, fishing, and camping as a family. He truly enjoyed his annual hunting trip with his brother David and friends, Joe Lumbreras, Bobby and Ramiro Guzman, Julian Garcia, Steve Whitmore, Teddy and Beto Rodriguez. He woke you up on Saturday mornings cooking breakfast, listening to his Mexican music, and cleaning the house all before noon. He loved music of his era but mostly Mexican music that would have him singing and dancing. Most of all, he loved his family. He was a very supportive, caring and loving father, who raised his children and grandchildren to have great work ethics and love for each other.
Robert will be truly be missed by his son, Robert “Pat” Lopez (Alma); daughters, Sandra (Bill) Sanders, Tracy Lopez and Lesley (Darrell) Lopez-Belt; grandchildren, Robert Gonzalez, Robert, Santino, Gabriella, Sophia, Sonny, Valencia and Nikko Lopez; Christina (Moses) Lopez-Facundo, Willard “Lil Bill” Sanders, Michael Lopez (Raven), Alexis Lopez, Aidan Belt and Destina Belt; many great grandchildren; his brother, David (Connie) Lopez; sisters, Mary Louise Bruce, Antonia (Louis) Enriquez, Irene Agostini and Sylvia Verdusco; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Victor (Linda) Guerra, Irene (Dan) Alvarez, Mary Ann Guerra-Whitson, Olga Sadavandi, Antonio (Athena) Guerra, Joseph Machul, and Benito Cantu; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He found new love with his special companion, Rosemary Breen and her children. He was predeceased by his grandson, Nikolas Rodriguez-Lopez, sister, Aurora Larson, father and mother-in-law, Victor and Irene Guerra, brothers and sisters-in-law, James Bruce, Richard Larson, Rudy Verdusco, Diana Machul, Melva Guerra and Gloria Munoz.
