Robert Falero Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Legacy Remembers on May 19, 2024.
Robert Lloyd Falero left us on April 8, 2024 of natural causes. He was born July 22, 1954, at St. John's Hospital, Long Island City, Queens. He was the second child of Nilda and Frank Falero, both of whom were born in Puerto Rico. His sister Sonia Jean Falero, older by two years, was his first playmate on the swing sets and slides of New York City parks. Nilda was a housewife, while 23-year-old Frank's occupation is listed in the birth certificate as "Student." A few years later, the family moved from a cold-water flat to sunny southern California, where Frank envisioned a better life for the family.

This was just the first of Bobby's moves: the family relocated several more times from LA County to Orange County. His brother, Jeff, entered the family in 1966 just as they purchased their first home in Huntington Beach. In those years, Bobby enjoyed hunting rabbit made and several trips to British Columbia with friends where he learned boating, fishing and camp cookery. He was also introduced to what was to become for him a lifelong interest, surfing.

In 1969 the family moved 10 miles east to Tustin. Bob was a proud "Tustin Tiller" and often attended Tustin High School reunions. At Saddleback Community College he found a passion for Life Sciences and earned his degree in Marine Biology from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Travel took him to islands and continents from East to West, while work took him north and south. But his heart never left the Central Coast.

Bobby had many jobs and talents: Marine Biologist in the SF Bay Area, Commercial Fisherman in the Central Coast and Alaska, chef and waiter up and down the coast, landscaper/gardener, and avid-reader. After checking out pre-med, law school and an MFCC program, he nailed his Life's Mission as a Middle School Science Teacher at Orcutt Junior High School. He creatively combined all the just-mentioned passions with a natural talent for educating, and he educated thousands of Central Coast youth.

When Bobby decided to do something, he flung himself into it, body and soul. When he took on our father's care five years ago, the die was cast. Those of us who saw him within the last two years wish (*desperately*) he would have taken a much-deserved break to sustain his energy and refresh himself. But he lives on in our memories of spectacular times; in what he taught us; and often those two were combined.

Living in Avila beach with him in a granny flat below him , and going to Cabo San Lucas on a tuna fishing trip. Those are the best memories. The fishing trip is one of the best memories of my life......

Bob bought me my first and only pair of “Earth Shoes” and I thought they were the coolest things ever. We would ride are bikes from Tustin to Newport Beach just to hang out. I reconnected with Bob a few years back and we would talk on the phone for hours about our days as Tiller’s. I live in New York now and he would make me laugh with old stories he would share with me on the phone. I learned about his life from those calls, the love for his family and their secret recipes that he loved to cook. With pride he would tell me about the students he guided through their love of Science and how it made him feel complete. I shall always remember his big smile and how he kinda tossed his head back and shake his thick hair and just laugh. You are missed here but still felt in my heart. My prayers for his family whom he loved to share their stories with me.

Whenever I go to Empire Cafe in Houston, TX (my hometown), I think about when my dad (Marcos), my mother, and I went to brunch with him. The weather was lovely (rare for Houston weather) and I remember feeling really welcomed by him. He was a lovely presence and I will warmly cherish the time I spent with him and the stories that he told us!

My heart and prayers go out to the Falero Family as we all mourn the passing of such a beautiful soul! I will miss and think of you often, my friend! I had the privilege of meeting Bob, almost 25 years ago from one of my clients. Bob, was initially referred to me for business reasons, but we quickly developed a friendship that went beyond me helping him with his real estate and financial goals. Both being Italian, we quickly discovered that we shared a passion for food, cooking, family, friends, travel, adventure, real estate and making a positive difference in peoples' lives. Bob had such a positive, energetic and infectious attitude that truly made a difference in peoples' lives. They say you can tell a lot about a person by the quality of people that they surround themselves with. Not only was Bob a good friend of mine but he was also a treasured client. Over the years, Bob enthusiastically referred me to dozens and dozens of his family, friends and collogues. Although I was honored to be introduced, I especially admired Bob's willingness and desire to help others with their goals. Bob genuinely celebrated other people's successes and when he liked you, he made it his mission to tell the rest of the world! I am so blessed to have known Bob and look forward to one day being reunited with him in Heaven.

My sincere condolences to Bob's family and close friends. I first met Bob in Shell Beach when we were both attending Cal Poly. He was always smiling and fun to hang out with. I'll never forget the days in Avila filming "California Dreaming" and him surfing in the film with my brother Johnny (RIP). I hope they're both getting tubed in heaven.

Bob and I shared a love for surfing. We went on many surf trips from NorCal to Baja California. Here is a pic of Bob and I somewhere south of Ensenada and his best imitation of a sand crab.

Bob was my best man at our wedding in Stockholm, Sweden. Even with an airport strike in Sweden he found a way to fly to Helsinki and take a ferry across the Baltic to make it just in time for the ceremony. What more can I say about his love for an adventure.

He shared his recipe book which was a simple notebook with handwritten family recipes. I loved that he traveled with the recipe book. I´m sure he prepared flavory dishes with love being the main ingredient and shared them over many dining room tables.

My heart goes out to everyone as Bob, such a remarkable person & his good energy will sure be missed! Carpooling with him for several years to school
was a joy! It was interesting & fun. We transported a wide variety of his Science pets until the snakes got out & died in his truck engine. He was very passionate about his teaching, the students loved his outdoor program, field trips, BBQs & learning how to garden. He would also come to my class & watch the students practice their Salsa dancing. I remember going to one of his Salsa parties in Shell Beach, it was pretty fun to watch him tear off his tie & take a friend out to the dance floor for some Latin dancing. He shared that his mama taught him to dance :-)
Bob was passionate about life, his family, friends & nature. I also appreciated his efforts on his recycling project at OJHS.
Bob came to our house warming party up in North County many years ago & I always enjoyed his company & sense of humor. He also introduced us to Mark & Aymee who were on the cutting edge of creative ways to buy investment properties. We still have 4 today & this process has blessed our lives. Bob has indeed made a difference in so many lives & will always hold a special place in my heart.

I enjoyed tending the Orcutt Jr. High School garden with Bob. Due to my schedule, I was able to help chaperone many of his AG field trips which were always interesting. Bob´s enthusiasm was infectious and he made me feel very welcome. We spoke of his travels and love for surfing among many things. His absence will be noticeable. My condolences to his family.

Bob and I went through teaching program at Cal Poly and then we both student taught at OJHS. We were both hired there and taught next door to each other for 30+ years until he retired. He was always an enthusiastic teacher and a fun person to be around. I have a plethora of wonderful memories from our time together at Orcutt.

I met Bob years ago through my friendship with Gary Lewis. I was friends with Eloise Pearl and found out from Bob that he was like a Godfather to Eloise and Jack Pearl´s three children. Over the years Bob would join my "Clump" of friends who met at the park at the end of Montecito Street in Shell Beach for picnics. My favorite memory of Bob was when I danced the marenge and other Puerto Rican dances with him and his parents at a place he was living in Avila Beach. It was heavenly! He was a great dancer and a really fun, good person. I am very sorry he passed away. My heart goes out to his family If there is a celebration of his life I would love to be there with his family and friends. Mary Squellati

Bob was a great guy on many levels. He was extremely intelligent as well as the life of the party. He was an excellent teacher his students will remember him fondly. His energy levels were off the charts. I know the world is a lesser place due to this loss. RIP, Bob. You deserve it.
