Robert M. Ferguson Jr., 67, of Hockessin, Delaware passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 5, 2025. Born in Wilmington on April 26, 1957, he was the son of the late Robert M. Sr. and Lillian (Wolhar) Ferguson.
Rob served in the United States Coast Guard and continued his service in the United States Naval Reserves. He was employed as a Scientist in the R&D Microbiology Lab at Solenis and Hercules for over 17 years and retired in 2022. Prior to his work in chemistry, Rob was a Quartermaster in the Merchant Marine.
Rob was a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather who cherished his large family. He was an avid reader and over the course of his life built an extensive personal library of thousands of books. For many years, Rob was also a volunteer baseball coach in Wilmington. A friend to many, Rob will be remembered as a person who loved to learn and teach. He always had a kind word for others and would lend a helping hand to those in need.
Rob is survived by his wife of 41 years, JoAnn (Facciolo) Ferguson; his children, Robert M. Ferguson III (Mary), Lauren White and Matthew Ferguson (Michelle); his grandchildren, Charlotte, Sally and Vivien Ferguson, Emery Price, Logan White and Leah Ferguson; his sisters, Jeanne Carroll (David) and Julie LaFon (Russ).
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Saturday, January 18 from 10:00 – 11:00AM, followed by a remembrance service.
