Robert G. "Bob" Ferris

Robert G. "Bob" Ferris, age 98, passed away peacefully at home, just days before his 99th birthday, surrounded by the love of his dear friends. Born on July 14, 1926, in Muskegon, Michigan, to Ralph and Josephine (Kraley) Ferris, Bob lived a life marked by service, song, and steadfast friendship.
A proud member of the Greatest Generation, Bob left Muskegon Heights high school to serve his country during World War II. While stationed in the U.S. Army, he completed his high school education and after the war, he pursued higher education at Calvin University and the University of Michigan, earning his bachelor's degree and setting the stage for a lifelong career in healthcare. For 41 years, Bob served as a medical technologist at Hackley Hospital, where his quiet dedication and gentle spirit touched countless lives. Even into his 80s, he remained committed to caring for others with compassion and professionalism.
But Bob's heart sang to music. A gifted vocalist with a rich, resonant voice, he sang with the Tommy Dorsey Band and even lent his talents as a backup singer to Frank Sinatra. His love of music found a spiritual home at Central Assembly of God Church, where he sang in the choir and worshipped faithfully for many years.
A loyal Detroit Tigers fan and beloved regular at the Coffee Factory Coffee Shop, he was known for serenading staff and patrons alike-especially the ladies-with songs from his remarkable repertoire. Bob is survived by his lifelong dearest friend, Jean Powell, and a wide circle of cherished friends who became like family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Josephine.
