Robert P Fletcher

Robert P. Fletcher, 98, passed away on September 28, 2025 at his home in Poughkeepsie, New York. Robert was born on August 24, 1927, in Erie Pennsylvania to Catherine Kovach and George Fletcher.
Robert joined the Navy at 17. Once discharged, he went on to attend Gannon College and Erie Business School through the G.I. Bill.
On November 5, 1948, he married the love of his life, Nina Malory, in Erie Pennsylvania. He met Nina through his best friend, Sam, Nina's brother, when he was 9 years old.
In 1955, they moved to Poughkeepsie, New York, where they raised 5 daughters.
Robert began his 37-year career with I.B.M. in 1951 where his work was crucial in the development of the world's most powerful computer working on STRETCH and various projects in Livermore and Los Alamos. His creativity resulted in several patents being awarded in his name.
Robert retired in 1987 to have more time traveling, playing tennis, skiing, golfing, and spending the winters in Naples, Florida. He also studied becoming a CFP (Certified Financial Planner).
Roberts' kindness, integrity, humor and love of life was overwhelming. He was a truly devoted family man and the world's best "Girl Dad". If you met Robert, you would quickly learn he had five daughters and a beautiful wife, something he was so proud of.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 77 years, Nina, as well as his five daughters; Susan Lapis, Patricia Fletcher, Robin Kennedy (Robert), Nancy Doyle (Thomas) and Linda Fletcher.
Six grandchildren; Dana, Erin, Laura, Robert, Ryan and Lily and two great grandchildren; Jameson and Mona as well as several nieces and nephews.
