Robert Folliard Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jan. 3, 2025.
Robert J. Folliard, Jr., age 86 of Bethany Beach, DE passed away peacefully on December 11, 2024. A native Washingtonian, Bobby was born on December 16, 1937, graduated from Archbishop John Carroll High School in Washington, DC in 1957 and proudly served in the United States Army, from which he was honorably discharged in 1960. Shortly thereafter he climbed the ranks to become the youngest store manager in the history of Drug Fair ("Don't say drug store-say Drug FAIR"). He later founded Welcome Aboard Travel in Washington, DC, and then BF Tours in Bethesda, MD. Through his tour business, Bobby organized educational and art museum tours to various destinations, including Europe, China, Japan, the former Soviet Union and Eastern Bloc countries.
To those who knew Bobby – famously known as "Red Dog," "The Dog" or simply "Pop Pop" to his seven grandchildren-the golf course was his second home and his game was legendary. As a member of both Manor Country Club in Rockville, MD and later Cripple Creek Country Club in Dagsboro, DE, "The Dog" was often challenged on the course but seldom beaten. His astounding achievement of 17 holes-in-one is a record that will be hard to surpass. His mastery of the game and camaraderie with friends on and off the course came naturally. Bobby was loved by all who knew him, and his spirit and memory will live on in the funny stories told by his family, friends and golf buddies.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Catherine Folliard, and his sisters, Katherine Frene, Patricia Livingston and Mary Wieseman.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 52 years, Denise Murphy Folliard; his sons William Cusack (Kelly) and Robert J. (Cory) Folliard, III; his daughter, Colleen (Scott) Border; and his seven beloved grandchildren, Jack and Billy Cusack, Reilly and Caitlin Folliard and Luke, Ryan and Evangeline Border. Bobby is also survived by his sister, Dorothy Bernier and his brothers, Thomas Folliard and Glenn Folliard.
A visitation will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church in Bethany Beach, DE on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 11:00 A.M., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 P.M. A private interment is planned for a later date. In Lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
