Robert L. Funda Sr., 95, longtime resident of Redwood, passed away Monday evening, March 25th, in Clarksville, TN.
He was born May 25, 1928, in Syracuse, NY, son of Lewis T. and Mary B. Funda. He graduated from Eastwood High School, in Syracuse. He served in the United States Army in the 749th Maintenance Co., 43rd Division from 1950-1952, during the Korean Conflict.
He married Doris E. Groth on July 1, 1961, in Jamesville, NY. Mrs. Funda passed away on May 13, 2016.
The couple lived in the Syracuse area for most of their working lives, where Bob worked for AT&T as a commercial network installer. After his retirement in 1984, they purchased and operated Funda’s Bluff Campground, on Hyde Lake. They sold the business in 2013.
Bob enjoyed boating, miniature golf, St. Augustine, FL (where they overwintered), and mowing the lawn
He is survived by a son, Robert Funda, Jr, Hammond, NY and a daughter, Eleanor Miller, Clarksville, TN, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, John T. and Richard Funda.
Calling hours will be held Friday, April 5th, from 5-7pm at the Costello Funeral Home, in Alexandria Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, April 6th, at 9am, at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Redwood. Burial will follow at Saint Francis Xavier Cemetery, Redwood.
