Robert (Bob) James Gedeon, 79, of Fernandina Beach, passed away on Oct. 31, 2022 after a 14 month painful, but valiant battle with cancer in his bones. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on Oct. 1, 1943 to his parents the late John F and Ann (Wolner) Gedeon and moved to Fernandina in 1962. After graduating from Florida State University, Bob made a good living in the field of real estate. His heart's true passion was the game of golf and that sport is what brought him to Florida at age 18 from his home state of Ohio. He invented several golf equipment innovations protected by utility and design patents.
Bob had compassion for nature – a lover of all creatures great and small. He shared his love of the outdoors including camping with Jennifer and other members of the family. He always took time to entertain the children and they loved his playful, happy attitude.
Bob loved to tell the great true story of his love at first sight for his wife Sylvia, who at the time was engaged to another young man. He was an ever loving and supportive father to his only daughter Jennifer.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Sylvia Poole Gedeon, his daughter, Jennifer Crews (Dewayne), 2 brothers, John (Barbara) and Ted, his sister Marlene (Lee) Robinson, Brothers-in-law, Wesley (Debbie) Poole and Price (Mary) Poole, Bob Duval, Doug and Pat Jones, many loving nieces and nephews, special golf group "The Reidsville Four" (Tony Lopez, Wesley Poole, Price Poole), special long-time friends of 48 years, Joe and Mary Fincher.
Bob greatly respected those of faith although his scientific mind always wrestled with his belief. Bob did not wish for a somber funeral service. Instead, he wished for his close family and friends to gather and celebrate his life, reminisce about the good times, and vow to make more good memories. At a later date Bob's ashes will be buried at Bosque Bello Cemetery in the family plot.
In Bob's words "If you are reading this relax, have fun, don't try to be perfect (be kind and do nice things), and I will see you "up there".
Always a thinker, Bob wrote his own epitaph: "He had fun and played a lot – but worked hard at it".
