Robert Edward Gehlbach, 82, of Mandeville, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 11, 2025.
Born on April 1, 1943, in Louisiana, Robert was the son of the late Philip A. Gehlbach (1893–1959) and Annabel D. Gehlbach (1899–1978). Though adopted and unaware of the exact city of his birth, Robert built a life marked by resilience, purpose, and strong personal values.
A devout Catholic, Robert lived his faith quietly but deeply. He was guided by a strong moral compass and a sense of compassion.
He began his career as a surveyor for the city of New Orleans before becoming the proud owner of his own fence company. Known for his work ethic, honesty, and determination, Robert was a man who valued doing things the right way and took pride in a job well done.
He had a passion for cooking and was delighted when preparing meals for those he loved. A lifelong student of American history, he was especially fascinated by the Oregon Trail and the pioneering spirit it represented-a reflection of his own independent and curious nature.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosemary H. Gehlbach (1943–2017), with whom he shared many years of love and partnership.
Robert is survived by his significant other, Marvel Winne, whose companionship brought warmth and comfort in his later years. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a kind, intelligent, and steady presence-a man of principle, faith, and quiet strength.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visitation at L. A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home, 2607 Williams Blvd., Kenner on Friday, April 25, 2025. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The funeral mass will directly follow at Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 2552 Kentucky Ave., Kenner starting at 11:30 a.m. followed by burial in St. Louis Cemetery No. 3, New Orleans, LA.
