Robert L. Gubbins of Saginaw Township, Michigan
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away on November 11, 2025. Age 88 years. He was born on July 20, 1937, to Edwin and Eliza (Williams) Gubbins. Robert married Ruth Ann Biver on January 14, 1961. They were married for 64 years. He served in the United States Navy for four years. Robert worked for Central Foundry/Malleable for over 30 years. He was a volunteer fireman for the Saginaw Township Fire Department for over 30 years. Robert was also a member/president of the Tri-City Wood Carvers Club and carved parts of the carousel at the Saginaw Zoo, helped with the carved mascot for Nouvel High School, and carved the angel with a broken wing for the Christmas tree at the state capitol in Lansing. He enjoyed doing odd jobs and helping people. Robert was also a master gardener and had a garden at the Saginaw Zoo. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Saginaw.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth; daughter, Theresa (George) Berg; daughter-in-law, Greta Gubbins; three grandchildren: Christy (George) Hovey, Melissa Berg, and George (Jennifer) Berg; two great-grandchildren: Marshall and Finnegan Hovey. Also surviving are a step grandchild, Megan, and her children; three sisters: Martha Lane, Laura (John) Cahill, and Nellie (Doug) Beebe, and a brother-in-law, Richard Kushion.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert David Gubbins; parents, Edwin and Eliza Gubbins; three brothers: Darald Gubbins, Edwin (Doris) Gubbins Jr., Gene (Barb) Gubbins; and three sisters: Beulah (Howard) Frye, Irene (Walt) Kube, Mary Kushion; a brother-in-law, Bryce Lane; and a sister-in-law, Gladys Biver.
A special thank you goes out to Auburn Fields Assisted Living & Memory Care for their kindness and compassionate care given to Robert. The family would also like to thank the Care Team Hospice staff and Visiting Physician’s staff.
A funeral service will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, November 14, 2025, at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 4480 Mackinaw Rd., Saginaw, MI 48603. Pastor Mike Nitz will officiate. Military honors will follow under the auspices of the United States Navy and American Legion Post #22. Burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral home on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at noon. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Bethany Lutheran Church, Auburn Fields Assisted Living, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
