Robert P. "Bob" Hackenberg, born on November 17, 1964, in Alpena, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on February 6, 2025. At the age of 60, Robert fought a courageous battle with cancer, demonstrating unwavering strength and resilience until the end.
A dedicated construction worker, Bob specialized in home remodeling and took immense pride in his craft. Of all his projects, he cherished the transformation of his own home the most, pouring love and meticulous care into every detail.
Beyond his professional life, Bob was an avid NASCAR fan and found great joy in watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and the West Virginia University Mountaineers. He was Catholic by faith and served his country with honor in the United States Navy.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, William E. and Margaret (LaBrecque) Hackenberg, as well as his brother, Thomas Hackenberg. He is survived by his loving wife, Tammy Hackenberg, his step-mother Caroline Hackenberg, and his sons, Robert and Michael Hackenberg, along with his step-daughter, Kelli Doney. He also leaves behind his brothers, James and David (Melissa) Hackenberg, and eight treasured grandchildren, including his special buddy, Kayden Hackenberg, with whom he spent countless precious moments. His legacy will also be carried on by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Family, friends, and those whose lives Bob touched are invited to gather for visitation on Monday, February 10, 2025, from 2 PM until the time of services at 6 PM at Altmeyer Funeral Home, located at 154 Kruger Street,
Wheeling, WV. During this time, Bob will receive full military honors in recognition of his service to his country, followed by a special celebration of life ceremony in his honor. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Bob's memory to one of the following charities: The
American Cancer Society, WeBark Estates, or The Road Home Animal Project. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the WVU Cancer Institute at Wheeling Hospital and at Valley Hospice for their compassionate and caring support.
