Robert Desmond Haughton, of Hackettstown New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 14th, 2024, at Saint Clare's of Denville hospital in Denville NJ. He was 88 years old.
Robert, known as Desi by his family, was born on June 24, 1936 in Manhattan, NY, and grew up in the Bronx. He was proud of his Irish heritage and could charm an audience with his rendition of 'Danny Boy'. He was a club manager most of his life, working for clubs in New York such as The Union Club, The Montauk Club, The Princeton Club of New York, and The Players, as well as clubs in New Jersey such as the Ramsey Golf and Country Club and, his most recent place of employment, VASA Park. He made many friends at VASA who became like family to him. He was so loved that after he retired, he continued to live on the VASA property where several of his VASA family members (Carol, Terry, Inger, Penny and Lisa) took excellent care of him – bringing him meals, taking him to appointments, chauffeuring him to family functions and sharing their friendship. He was loved and respected by all who knew him.
Robert is survived by his niece Colleen Buckley, niece Erin Sands and husband David, nephew James Haughton and wife Lola, nephew Philip Haughton, nephew Rickie Haughton and niece Annette Haughton.
Robert also has 9 grand nephews and nieces including Jessica, Justin, Ryan, Danielle, Morgan, Meghan, Frank, Ryan and Kerry Ann. He also has 7 great grand nephews and nieces including Brielle, Kian, Finn, Sofia, Alayna, Avery, and Eduardo.
Robert was predeceased by his parents Rose and James Haughton, his brothers Patrick Haughton and Richard Haughton, and his sister Maureen Keane. He was also predeceased by his nieces Roseann Keane and Tara Keane, and his nephew Kevin Keane.
