Dr. Robert Southey Hays, Jr. passed away on March 17, 2026 at the age of ninety. He was born on Aug 6, 1935 in Bossier Parish, LA.
A graduate of Lake Charles High, McNeese State University, and Loyola University School of Dentistry in New Orleans, Louisiana, he served as a Captain in the US Dental Corps at Fort Lewis McChord Airbase in Tacoma, Washington before returning home to Louisiana to establish his dental practice in Vinton.
Dr. Hays cared for his many patients for over fifty years. He was a true outdoorsman, taking numerous hunting and fishing trips to Alaska and South Africa over the years.
Dr. Hays is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Jane Chavanne Hays, and three daughters and a son: Harriet Armstrong (Jim), Charlotte Seale, Southey Hays III (Julie), and Jane Peters (Jeff); Nine grandchildren: Caroline Dennis (Blake), James Armstrong (Daniela), Patrick Seale (Shannon), Allie Lovejoy (Kaleb), Julia Hays, Southey Hays IV, Anna Hays, William Peters, and Eugenie Peters. He is also survived by two great grandchildren: Anne Dennis and Cameron Lovejoy.
Dr. Hays was preceded in death by his parents, Lottie Williams Hays and Robert Southey Hays, Sr; his sister, Frances Anne Reeves and brother, William Reid Hays.
A time of gathering for family and friends will be Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 12:30pm until 2:30pm, at Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake St. Lake Charles, LA. 70605. A graveside service will immediately follow at Niblett's Bluff Cemetery, 1649 Wright Rd., Vinton, LA, 70668.
