Mr. Robert Joseph “Bob” Heider, 78, of Durham passed Saturday May 17, 2025. Bob was born March 31, 1947, to the late Joseph John Heider, Sr and Dolores Marie Hutter Heider in Buffalo, NY.
In addition to his parents Bob is predeceased by his wife of 50 years Carol Johnson Heider.
Bob is survived by his daughter Mary Catherine “Cathy” DeFayette and husband Paul of Hurdle Mills, NC; son Lonnie Douglas “Doug” Heider and wife Krystal of Glennville, GA; grandchildren, Heather Marie Griffin and husband Josh of Youngsville, NC, Brittany Nicole Ferrell and husband Evan of Glennville, GA; great grandchildren Mary-Grace Caroline Griffin and Benton Robert Griffin, both of Youngsville, NC; brother, Joseph John Heider, Jr and wife Patty of Lancaster, NY; niece, Becky Gandour and husband Andre of Buffalo, NY; great nephews, Ben and Nate Gandour also of Buffalo, NY. He also leaves behind many beloved Johnson family members.
Bob proudly served his country in the Army in Vietnam. He retired from IBM as a Machinist working in the Model Shop. He attended Durham Memorial Baptist Church. He enjoyed being outdoors and was an antique car enthusiast.
The true joy of his life was his family and his beloved pets.
A visitation will be held on Thursday May 22, 2025, at Hudson Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held Friday May 23, 2025, at Hudson Funeral Chapel at 2 p.m. Officiating will be Reverend Ed Denton.
Interment will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Evan Ferrell, Josh Griffin, Mike Hall, Ronald Johnson, Dean West, Sr. and Dean West, II.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Charlie Hemphill, Tommy Johnson and Billy Johnson.
Flowers are acceptable or donations can be made in Bob's memory to St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital.
