Robert Hester Obituary

Robert Earl Hester
February 21, 1927 – October 6, 2025
Robert Earl Hester, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and a proud U.S. Army veteran, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. He was born on February 21, 1927, in Graham, Oklahoma, the fourth of eight children in a family that valued hard work, faith, and love of country.
In the fall of 1944, during his senior year of high school, Robert left his studies early to enlist in the U.S. Army alongside his cousin. Both young men were eager to serve their country before the end of World War II. One of Robert's most cherished memories was celebrating his 18th birthday aboard the RMS Queen Mary as he crossed the Atlantic on his way to the European theater to help liberate Europe.
Robert served honorably as an infantry soldier, facing the hardships and sacrifices of war with courage and humility. Though he rarely spoke of his experiences, those close to him knew the memories of combat and the loss he witnessed weighed deeply on his heart. Later in life, he began to share stories of the camaraderie, bravery, and tragedy that shaped him, reminding those who listened of the true cost of freedom and the importance of compassion.
After returning home, Robert married the love of his life, Wanda Lou Beck, on June 25, 1946. Together, they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and faith. Their marriage spanned decades and was a true partnership marked by devotion and a shared commitment to family. They raised two sons and were blessed with seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy and pride.
Robert's life was guided by kindness, integrity, and humility. He was a man of quiet strength who believed that character was shown through action, not words. He often reminded those around him, "If you have nothing nice to say about someone, don't speak." His gentle wisdom, steady presence, and sense of humor left a lasting mark on everyone he met.
He was happiest when surrounded by family-sharing stories at the dinner table, watching his grandchildren grow, or simply holding Wanda's hand. Robert's legacy is one of love, service, and faith in the goodness of others.
He was preceded in death by his parents and several of his brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife of almost 80 years, Wanda; his two sons and their spouses, Stephen (Linda) and Stanley (Karla); his grandchildren; his great-grandchildren; his brother, Donald; and a host of extended family and dear friends who will carry his memory in their hearts forever.
A service with full military honors will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas. The ceremony will be private, limited to family and close friends.
Robert's life reminds us that heroism is not only found on battlefields but in the quiet strength of a heart devoted to love, kindness, and country.
