Robert (Bob) L. Hicks Jr., 75, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away on February 2, 2023 after being diagnosed with a Glioblastoma in May of 2022.
Bob was born on April 3, 1947, to Theresa and Robert Hicks, Sr. in Springfield, MO. He attended Hillcrest High School before joining the U.S. Navy in 1965 and serving on the USS Paricutin during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he spent a few years back in Springfield. In 1970 he moved to New Albany, IN to start a job with the L&N Railroad. Little did he know he would spend the next 40 years riding the rails.
After retiring from the railroad, he couldn't wait to hop on his motorcycle or climb in his infamous burnt orange Dodge truck and hit the road for another adventure. When he was at home, you could find him working in his yard while smoking a cigar or enjoying a fire pit with family.
Bob also had a passion for Starbucks and no matter where his travels led him, you could often find him at the nearest store. In 2010, this dedication to Starbucks led to a chance meeting with Angela Roberts at the Fleming Island store. The two would begin dating and marry in 2016.
Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and a respected and beloved friend. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. He is survived by his wife Angela, her children and their grandchildren; son and daughter-in-law Jon and Brook; granddaughters Bradlie and Sarah, his brother and sister-in-law Kenny and Sherry; and countless extended family across the country.
A service will be held on Friday March 31 at 2:30pm at the Jacksonville National Cemetery followed by a celebration at Intuition Ale Works (929 E Bay St Jacksonville, FL 32202) from 4-7pm.
