PETERSTOWN - Robert Gene Hodge, 77, a Vietnam veteran and resident of Peterstown West Virginia, went to be with his Lord and Savior, on Tuesday March 18, 2025. Born June 2, 1947, in Pikeville Kentucky, he was the son of the late Harry Preston Hodge and Parthella "Polly" Whitlow Hodge.
The U.S. Navy recognized Gene's honorable service in the attack squadron one seven six aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt with the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He retired from Hubbell Lighting Inc. in Christiansburg VA after 28 years working as a loader.
Mr. Hodge was a member of the Friendship Primitive Baptist Church in Beeson WV where he served as deacon. He loved to hunt, fish and spend time with family and friends. He especially loved spending time traveling and dancing with his loving wife. He always had a smile on his face and never met a stranger.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Gale Evans Hodge; brother, Ronnie Hodge; two sisters-in law, Martha Harvey Goings, Roebertha Harvey Taylor; brother-in-law, William "Billy" Harvey and wife Elitha; and one step-great grandchild, Troy Blake Anthony Meadows.
Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Dorothy Harvey Shrewsbury Hodge; six step-children, Teresa Meadows of Elliston VA, Vicki Tachell and husband Mike of Princeton, Dreama Horton and husband Dwayne of Speedway, Timothy Shrewsbury and wife Lori of Beeson, Donnie Simonini and wife Melissa of Key West, FL and Shelli Martin and husband Kent of Roanoke VA; three sisters-in-law, Darlene Hodge of Ohio, Samantha Harvey and husband Eugene of Ghent, and Wanda Faidley of Princeton; brother-in-law, Felix Taylor of Annville, KY; two special friends, Joey Vogelsong of New Bloom, PA and Billy Gardner of Staunton, VA and many step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, other special family members and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Friday April 25, 2025 at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Reverend Charlie Bennett and Elder Tommy Pack officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will follow at New Zion Cemetery at Elgood.
The family will receive friends Thursday, April 24, 2025 from 6-8 p.m. at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.bailey-kirk.com.
