Robert Calvin Hurst, 69, of Shelby, NC, formerly of Belmont, NC passed away Thursday October 19, 2017 at his residence. Mr. Hurst was born on December 26, 1947 in Clarksdale, Mississippi to the late Willie Lester Hurst and Ruth Nall Hurst. He is also preceded by his sisters Beverly Wood, Joyce Goff and brother Jackie Hurst. Robert was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in Vietnam and was a member of the American Legion Post 82 in Shelby, NC. He was an avid lover of the outdoors where he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a family man and loved all his family and especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his loving wife Joan Sanford Hurst. Children; Sunny Glenn and husband Neal, Christian Caldwell and wife Shannon, Lisa York and husband Brian, Michelle Sanford and Jason Sanford. Sister; Elizabeth “Liz” King and Brother; Larry Hurst and wife Wanda. Grandchildren; Jourdan, Morgan, Gabe, Maya, Sabrina, Makenzie, Matthew, Ethan, Harrison, Isaiah, Lydia and Elliott. Great Grandchildren; Alayna and Raelyn. Also survived by several nieces and nephews and many loving friends. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday Oct. 24 at Benson Funeral Services in Mt. Holly. Services will be held Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation 1 hour prior to the service at Meredith Nowell Funeral Home, 314 E 2nd St, Clarksdale, MS 38614. Rev. William Opie Hurst will be officiating. Interment will follow with Military Honors at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Clarksdale, MS. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Dr, Shelby, NC 28950 or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
