Robert L. Johns, 92, of Bellefontaine, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2026, in Mary Rutan Hospital, Bellefontaine, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Huntsville, Ohio on April 15, 1933, the son of the late Joseph B. and Daisy (Kinnard) Johns.
On November 29, 1951, he married his high school sweetheart, JoAnn E. “Jody” (Diener) Johns, and she preceded him in death on August 10, 2015. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah S. Augustus in 2023, a sister, Sally, and three brothers, Joseph Jr., William, and Kenneth.
He is survived by a daughter, Christine (Alfredo) Guilfuchi of Newmarket, New Hampshire, five grandchildren, Amy (Michael) Ernst, Holly (Shawn) Keller, Noah (Kayleigh) Guilfuchi, Nicholas Guilfuchi, and Juliana Guilfuchi, four great grandchildren, Emily (Tim), Peyton, Brandon, Zachary and Elise, and son-in-law, Mike Augustus.
He is also survived by his companion, Jacque Johnson, with whom he developed a close relationship after both were widowed. Together, they shared dinners, social gatherings, and laughter.
Robert spent his career as a finish carpenter and was a member of the Central Midwest Carpenters Union, Local #136. Together with his late wife, he managed several rental properties in the area and took pride in maintaining them as the handyman, ensuring everything was tidy and operational. Robert was always ready to help his family and friends with any building or construction projects. He also belonged to the Moose Lodge #2653, Elks Lodge #132, and Eagles Lodge #2166, all located in Bellefontaine, and was a sports fan of The Ohio State University Buckeyes.
Father Shawn Landenwitch will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00pm on Thursday, January 22, 2026, in St. Patrick Catholic Church, 316 E. Patterson Avenue, Bellefontaine, Ohio 43311. Visitation will be Thursday, from 10:30am to 12:30pm at the Eichholtz & Daring Funeral Home, 321 N. Main St., Bellefontaine, Ohio 43311. Burial will be in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society c/o St. Patrick Catholic Church, 321 E. Patterson Avenue, Bellefontaine, Ohio 43311.
