BYRON, IL ~ Robert “Bob” W. Johnson, 77, passed away with his loving wife by his side on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at Serenity Hospice and Home of Oregon, IL. Bob was born on July 10, 1947, in Mendota, IL, the son of John & Doris (Littlewood) Johnson. He was then lovingly raised by his grandparents William & Florence Littlewood. After graduating high school he went on to join the United States Air Force as a medic between 1967 and 1971. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, he met and married the love of his life Beverly Beck on January 23, 1971, in Rochelle, IL. They shared the next 53 years building a wonderful life and family together. He worked for 35 years at Sundstrand Aerospace of Rockford as a group supervisor, making many lifelong friends while there. Throughout his life he enjoyed camping, fishing, being outdoors, golfing, riding motorcycles, listening to jazz and blues music, and taking care of the many dogs he owned over the years. Bob would spend time collecting coins, playing cards with friends every week and he would even go to the library twice a week to play Bridge. Above all else he had a true passion for woodworking. He made beautiful furniture for him and his family to enjoy, along with pens, bowls, toys, and many other things. He is preceded in death by his grandparents and parents. He is survived and missed dearly by his loving wife Beverly of Byron, IL; son Aaron (Dawn) Johnson of Loves Park, IL; daughter Nikki (Nate) Kunkel of Cary, IL; brothers Michael (Joyce) Johnson of Princeton, IL; Mark (Leanne) Johnson of Oregon, IL; sister Sandy (Jeff) Hirter of Elgin, IL; grandchildren Latham, Olivia, Eli, Stephanie; and great-grandchildren Fiona and Lucy.
A visitation will take place on Saturday, January 4, 2025, between the hours of 1:00 PM & 3:00 PM at Farrell Holland Gale Funeral Home of Byron, IL. Cremation rites will take place prior to services. Memorials are established in his name and may be directed to Serenity Hospice and Home of Oregon, IL, a link is provided below.
