Robert George Johnson entered his eternal life on August 25, 2025 at the young at heart age of 89. He was born in Detroit on June 7, 1936, to Morris and Margaret (Arzoomanian) Johnson.

Bob retired from GM after a 31-year career, having worked in quality assurance in the Chevrolet Division. However, he was not an“all work and no play” kind of guy. Bob actively displayed a zest for life that was evident by his countless adventures with family and friends.

Bob and his brothers went on male bonding trips that often resulted in cherished memories, inside jokes, and great stories for years to come, like the time they were invited, after a particularly rowdy lunch, to join the Polish Century Club despite being 100% Armenian!

Having a heart for philanthropy, Bob was heavily involved in the Elks Club and the Lions Club over the years and was very active with local events such as planning the city of Utica’s 175th Anniversary Festival, even volunteering for their team of “keystone cops”. Bob was also happily a member of the Ooga Ooga Club in Rose City with his best buddy, Sid.In his younger years, he and his friends liked to load up into a van, taking turns driving north to Port Austin, while stopping at every bar from here to there, making new friends along the way. He also loved to participate in the Port Huron to Mackinaw sailing races for many years, celebrating from the thumb up to the tip of the mitten!

Bob also enjoyed the Johnson family picnics every summer which always seemed to be held on the hottest day, much to his delight. He knew and appreciated the value of relationships and family over possessions. Bob’s love for his family was evident at all times, and he was immensely proud to be a father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Bob loved to vacation on the Gulf Shores. When possible, he appreciated travel throughout the U.S. to experience difference cultures and regions. In his later years, he enjoyed day trips with his wife and their grandchildren. In his leisure time, he enjoyed reading westerns, watching all walks of wildlife, spending time with family &friends, along with reading about or watching his favorite John Wayne movies because he respected his timeless character and integrity, which are values Bob believed in wholeheartedly.

Bob is survived by his wife Louise, sister Irene Johnson, children Veronica (Ken) Barg-Cohrs, Darryl (Veacheal) Johnson, Natalie (David) Stephens, Andrea (Carter) Cortelyou, and Sharon (Rick) Rockey, grandchildren Christopher (Patti) Daldine, Richard Willis III, Robert Barg, Bryan (Caitlin) Willis, Gracelyn Rockey, and Rich Rockey, great-grandchildren Hannah, Hollyn, Nathaniel, and Hazel. Predeceased by his parents, siblings Alice, Joe, Rich, Morris, Carolyn, and Ruth, and son John Antilla. Bob’s greatest wish for those he leaves behind would not be to mourn his absence but to celebrate life with family and make more treasured memories.

Per Bob’s wishes, cremation is taking place and a private family memorial will be held. Memorial donations can be made to the family or to Bob’s favorite charity, the Leader Dogs for the Blind of Rochester Hills, MI.
