One of his big hobbies as a young man was coon hunting and he could share some tall tales of adventures that he enjoyed participating in. He was a master carver of wood and made many keychains and wooden chains. He gardened and produced many vegetables that filled the freezer every year.
His first job was working for McCrory's Department Store training to become a manager, upon completion of the training they told him that they wanted him to go to Chicago, Illinois and he chose to stay in Amite County and a stranger named Oliver Emmerich came to his home and offered him a job at the Enterprise-Journal where he worked as a pressman for 12 years. After leaving the newspaper he went to work for Georgia-Pacific in Gloster serving in different capacities finally working in the scale house. After retirement from Georgia-Pacific he went to work as a logging inspector for Timber and Wildlife Management retiring at the age of 80 to his farm to continue his work ethic.
Robert gave his life to the Lord at an early age and served him throughout his life. He was a member and deacon at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church of Gloster. He was a big prayer warrior and never failed to tell you that he was praying for you when he saw you.
Robert served his country in the United States Army as an MP for two years. After leaving the Army he served in the Mississippi National Guard for over 25 years as a staff sergeant.
Robert had love for music playing mostly stand-up bass, mandolin and the fiddle. He played with numerous bands throughout his life. He played with many bluegrass-gospel groups & starting the Amite County Howdown. His talents even went so far as writing lyrics which brought him such pleasure.
