Very sorry to hear about the passing of Bob Jones. I am a 1981 Abbey graduate, majored in politics, took a half-dozen classes with Dr. Jones, and was a student-worker for him my last two years. Dr. Jones was engaging, funny, good-hearted, and generous with his time and learning. I fondly remember many classes filled with good cheer, many books and articles he lent me, and he interested me in areas that I knew little about (especially comparative government). We were fortunate to have him with us. My prayers for him and his family.

Bob Jones was a mentor to me, perhaps unbeknownst to him! From 1971-1974, I was a Political Science major at The Abbey, but living at Sacred Heart, as the two colleges were men' s and women's schools at the time. I'll never forget that Bob took the time to attend my graduation at Sacred Heart. Years and years later, I became a member of the English faculty at Belmont Abbey and enjoyed a long and meaningful colleagueship with him. Bob was always there for advice. I attended a student study trip to Estonia and Russia that he organized, and a few years later he was invaluable in helping me organize a study trip to England. He was a generous, curious, a born teacher and intellectually gifted man. He left a mark on my life, and for that I am grateful.
