Robert Jones Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Vansant-Mills Funeral Home - Clinton on Mar. 16, 2026.
Robert E. Jones, Jr., age 81, of Clinton, Missouri, affectionately known to many as Bob, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, March 15, 2026. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM on Friday, March 20, 2026 at the Methodist Church in Clinton with funeral services at 2:00 PM also at the church. Burial to follow with Military Honors in Englewood Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to C.A.R.E. and may be left in care of the funeral home.

Bob had a lifelong love of music and began playing the trumpet during his school years, competing in band competitions throughout his youth. His passion for music continued as he played in the marching band at the University of Missouri. His musical talents also carried into his military service, where he proudly played in the Army Band.

Bob proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he received two commendations and a Bronze Star for his honorable service.

After his military service, Bob worked for AT&T, building a successful career before retiring early to return to the family farm. Though he appreciated the quiet of country life, he maintained a love for technology and was always tinkering, curious about how things worked and finding ways to improve them.

Bob also served his community faithfully for many years as a Mercer County Commissioner, a role in which he took pride in helping serve and support his local community.

Music remained an important part of his life. Over the years he played Taps to honor fallen soldiers, sang in church choirs, and performed with the Royal Ambassadors Old Time Band.

Bob also enjoyed the outdoors and had a deep appreciation for animals. Hunting and fishing were among the activities that brought him peace and enjoyment throughout his life.

Bob was a firm believer in Jesus Christ as his Savior, having accepted that salvation at a young age and being baptized in the Methodist Church as a child.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Rachel Jones, and his beloved grandson, Jared Campbell.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Cathy Farris Jones; his daughters, Tracey Redfern and Tami Campbell; and his grandchildren, Zackery Campbell, Rachel Redfern, Tyler Redfern and his wife Kendra, and Joey Redfern.

He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren, Malaki, Haevyn, Madelyn, and George, along with bonus great-grandchildren, Savanna and Maverick.

In addition to his immediate family, Bob leaves behind extended family including brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many who loved him dearly.

Bob will be remembered for his love of music, his curiosity for how things worked, his appreciation for the outdoors, his deep love of animals, and his legacy of a loving family.
