Robert B. "Bob" Kasel Jr.

Robert B. Kasel, Jr., of Valley Bend, WV, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at the VA Nursing Home in Clarksburg. He was 78 years old.

Bob was born on December 3, 1946, in Clarksburg, WV, the son of the late Robert B. Kasel, Sr. and Sybil Hope Kasel.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Cassandra Kasel of Hurricane; two sisters, Susie (Kenney) Pritchard of Spotsylvania, VA, and Lindy (Randy) Golden of Bridgeport; his sister-in-law, Claudia Kasel; and his brother-in-law, Skip Powell. Also surviving are six nieces and nephews: Laura (Doug) Bryant, Mandy (Kirk) Curry, Sarah (Brent) McConnaughy, Jason (Carrie) Pritchard, Summer Kasel, and Kenny Kasel, along with several great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kenny Kasel, and by Betsy Henson, the mother of his son.

Bob was a 1965 graduate of Bridgeport High School and, immediately following graduation, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served for five years, including 13 months in Vietnam. After leaving the Corps, he worked as a heavy equipment operator for several coal companies, including Grafton Coal and Barbour Coal.

In his spare time, Bob enjoyed hunting and raising German Shepherds. Above all, he was most proud of his military service to his country. He often described himself as "mostly" hardheaded, "a little bit" opinionated, and always a Marine. He truly lived life his way.

The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to Amedisys Hospice and the Veterans Nursing Home in Clarksburg for their excellent care over the past few months. They loved him, spoiled him, and treated him with the highest dignity and respect.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the WV Veterans Nursing Facility, One Freedom Way, Clarksburg, WV 26301.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., where Catholic Burial Rites will be held at 1 p.m. with Very Rev. Walt Jagela, V.F., presiding. Interment will follow in Trinity Cemetery with Military Funeral Honors accorded by Marion County Honor Guard.
