Robert Lee Kent was born in Leesburg, Florida, on February 23, 1941, to Tom and Conseola (Applewhite) Kent. He was the eleventh of twelve children and was preceded in death by all of his siblings.
Robert Lee attended Carver Heights High School and graduated Salutatorian in 1960. The Kent family were very talented in sports and were great swimmers. Robert was on the football team where he was nicknamed "Slater."
In 1964 Church of God by Faith had a tent revival in Leesburg, he and a few friends, including Elder Rudolph Berry, decided to check it out. He was not saved and didn't have salvation on his mind. After the first night he decided to go the second night, and then found himself going every night. A few weeks later, when the Holy Spirit convicted his heart, he said it felt like he was walking on air.
Robert Lee met Vivian Joyce at the Newark COGBF.. They were joined in holy matrimony on June 14, 1974, by Elder Theodore Brown.
Elder Kent was a faithful servant of the Lord while serving his local church and on the North Eastern District of COGBF for over forty years.
His ministerial journey included: Assistant Pastor to the late Ruling Elder Theodore Brown, Newark, NJ: Pastor of the Easton, PA, COGBF beginning in 1988; appointed Pastor of the Theodore Brown Memorial Springfield, MA, COGBF mission in 2003; and Interim Pastor of the Newburgh, NY, COGBF for two years.
In 2017 he was no longer able to pastor due to illness. He and his wife continued their membership under Pastor Elder Michael J. Brown, Sr., at the Easton COGBF where he was affectionately known as the "Godfather."
Elder Kent is survived by his devoted wife of forty-eight years, Vivian Joyce, sons Timothy Keith, Robert, Jr., and Kenneth, Sr. Special nephew and niece: Andre and Gloria Jean. Five grandchildren: Brandon, Sherri (deceased), Kendra, Kenny, Jr. (Jayvon), and Katrina. A host of great grandchildren and the newest great grand Jaxon Kent. Many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. And godchildren Jeneen, Kelly, Destiny, Randy, and Joshua.
