Robert Harry Kenward, age 90, of Cape Carteret, NC (formerly of Morehead City, NC) passed away peacefully on December 30, 2025. Born on September 24, 1935, in New York City, he lived a full life of devotion to God and his church.
A funeral service with full military honors will be conducted at 11:00 am, Monday, January 5, 2026, at St Andrew's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Tambria Lee officiating. The family will receive friends in the church parish hall following the service.
Early in life, he attended the prestigious Stuyvesant High School in Brooklyn, NY and then went on to proudly serve our country with 22 years in the US Air Force where he retired as a Senior Master Sergeant. He then served over 20 years as a machinist and quality control instructor at MCAS Cherry Point, NC. He also attained a Theology Degree from Sewanee University in Tennessee. He was also a lifelong NY Yankees baseball fan.
Renowned for his booming voice, he utilized that voice as a long term lay reader at his church, as a television anchorman for the Air Force while stationed in Panama, as a radio news anchor in Vietnam, and also did a variety of voiceovers for local radio and television advertisements.
He is survived by his son, Robert F Kenward and wife, Melissa of Cape Carteret, and son, Tony Kenward, of Fort Worth, TX; one grandchild, Charles Kenward of San Antonio, TX; and two step grandchildren, Micah Mason and Garrett Mason of Swansboro, NC.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Newcomb Kenward, parents Frank and Pauline Kenward of Ft Lauderdale, FL and one brother, Bruce Kenward of Norfolk, VA.
Charitable donations are welcome to St Andrews Episcopal Church and Hope Mission in Morehead City.
