Robert "Bob" Roy Klopping, 88 of Nevada, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at Story County Medical in Nevada.
Bob was born October 23, 1935, in Eagle Grove, IA the son of Rev Roy and Rena (Comley) Klopping. He graduated from Nevada High School in 1953 and attended Iowa State University. Bob enlisted in the United States Army in 1958 and was in the Army Reserves until his honorable discharge in 1964. He was married to the love of his life, Karen Taylor, on June 9, 1957, and remained happily married for 57 years serving as an example of true love and steadfast devotion for their family. Bob worked for the Iowa DOT in road and bridge design as well as data processing from 1955 until his retirement in 1994.
Bob, known to many as Bobby or Grandpa Bobby, was known for his one-of-a-kind boisterous laugh, lovable nature, and ability to poke fun at himself. These endearing qualities and so much more made him well-loved and respected by so many. Bob was a faithful member of Memorial Lutheran Church and is remembered affectionately for singing with genuine conviction, albeit louder and faster than the rest of the congregation. A few of his hobbies include woodworking, gardening, and helping with construction projects. He was a man of many talents and found particular joy in helping others.
Bob and Karen traveled well and often together maintaining an uncanny memory for places, dates, and stories. They spent 15 winters in
Naples, FL which served as a winter getaway for many family and friends that left them with lasting memories.
Most importantly, Bob loved to spend time with his grandchildren and family making them all feel uniquely special and fiercely loved. This will remain his most defining legacy he will leave behind.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Lynne (Kim) Wilkinson of Nevada and Jill (Todd) Otto of Nevada; his grandchildren, Kory (Erin) Wilkinson, Kacie (Chris) Marich, Taylor Otto and Braydon Otto; his great-grandchildren, Lexi, Zack and Lily Wilkinson and Ada, Brynn and Norah Marich. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and his sister, Darlene Lindstrom.
While his family is heartbroken at the immense loss of their beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, we find great comfort in the knowledge that he will finally be reunited with his great love, Karen. It is an honor to have known, loved, and been loved by him.
Bob's funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery in Nevada.
