Robert Allen Kroening passed away on Monday, June 2, 2025 age 91 yrs. Loving husband of the late Marga (nee Soenksen), and dear father of Scott and Jennifer (Mike). Proud grandpa to Ryan (Taylor), Nicole (Tommy), and Leilah (Hunter). Preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Elsie, and his brother, Dwayne.
Bob was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on December 11, 1933 and graduated from West Allis Central High School. He married Marga Soenksen on September 16, 1961 at Capitol Drive Lutheran Church. Bob worked at the A & P for some time and then went back to college to earn his bachelor's of interior design at Layton School of Art, now known as Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. After working in the commercial interior design industry for some time, he opened his own business – Index Business Interiors. Next to his family, his business was his love. Bob worked on many local establishments including Catholic Family Insurance, a variety of McDonald's, and some Hardee's restaurants. He loved talking to his employees and clients, and he was energized by being busy and tackling challenges.
Despite loving his work, Bob's number one focus was his family. He never missed a concert, sporting event, or play for his children or grandchildren- no matter what part of the country it happened to be. He was so proud of his grandkids and talked often about them and their accomplishments to whatever clerk, waiter, or patron he happened to meet. Bob also loved a good time. He and Marga were the life of the party when friends and family gathered, and he enjoyed telling those stories and reliving those memories even up to the day he passed.
Bob lost Marga in February of this year, and after 63 years of marriage, it was difficult. However, after the initial shock and grief, he handled it with his signature positive attitude and optimistic outlook on life. He continued to enjoy the little things in life like family gatherings, a good restaurant meal, and the shows he and Marga watched on TV, but he talked often about Marga and how he looked forward to being with her again. He had a very strong faith and knew they would be reunited; when he said goodbye to her in February, he whispered that it wouldn't be long.
Bob struggled with health issues the last few years, and it became too much for him in the past week. He made the choice to go into hospice on Friday and was at complete peace with his decision. He talked about being grateful for an amazing life and family, and he said he was ready to be with his Lord and his Marga. All of Bob's family – children, grandchildren, and best friend from college- were able to be with him the last day of his life. He smiled, talked as best he could, and soaked in the love from all his special people.
We will celebrate Bob's life on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Heritage Funeral Home located at 4800 South 84th Street in Greenfield, Wisconsin. Visitation is from 10:00am-11:00am, and a service and luncheon will follow.
