Mr. Robert L. Long, Sr., age 86, entered into Heaven on Monday evening, December 23, 2024 from the McWhorter Hospice House of Union County. A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024 at 12:00 PM in the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery, 15084 SC-9, Chesterfield, SC 29709. The family will receive friends following the service at the home of Mr. Robert, 1610 Trinity Church Rd. Monroe, NC 28112, from 2:00 to 6:00 PM on Friday.
Mr. Long was born June, 21, 1938 in Oakboro, NC a son of the late William Frank and Hattie Mae Whitworth Long. Robert was an Army veteran and former owner of the Laneyhill Tree Farm. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Indian Trail. Robert valued hard work and he worked tirelessly to provide for his family whom he loved. Robert enjoyed spending time outdoors as well as spending time with family.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Long was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Savanna Lee Beane; siblings, Jesse Long, Frank Long, Jimmy Long, Macie Benton, Elizabeth Starnes, and Buddy Hancock.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Katherine Brooks Long of the home; children, Robert Lee (Renee) Long, Jr. of Monroe, NC, Holly (Brad) Beane of Monroe, NC; grandchildren, Brett Long, Brady Long, Sarah Ashley (Brad) Laney, great grandchildren, Lynna Kate Laney; siblings, Eddie (Dianne) Long of Baltimore, MD, Ruby (Archie) Baker of Beebe, AR, Betty Hill of Cornelius, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Piedmont High School Band, www.piedmontband.org; or to the Harmony Community Church Youth Program, P.O. Box 138 Peachland, NC 28133.
