Robert G. Lemay, "Bob", 92, of Rio Verde AZ, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 12, 2026. He was born in Lawrence MA on July 22, 1933, the youngest son of Norbert "Joe" and Mary Anne "Annie" (Bouchard) Lemay. He spent his early years in Lawrence, MA, his adulthood in Salem and Hudson, NH, and enjoyed his retirement in Rio Verde, AZ with his wife, Donna.
Bob grew up in the Franklin Street neighborhood of Lawrence and graduated from St. Anne's Grammar School, where one of his cherished memories was acting alongside his friend and classmate, the world-renowned entertainer Robert Goulet. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1951, starring in track, cross country, and as a member of the championship basketball team. He spent his freshmen year at Boston College before enlisting in the Air Force with his close buddies.
Bob's passion was playing basketball. He competed against some of the best players in the country while traveling the world with his Air Force unit. After his military service, he returned to Massachusetts and continued his education at Merrimack College. Bob became the first 1,000-point scorer in school basketball history and captained the team to the school's first winning season. His outstanding achievements earned him a place in Merrimack College's Athletics Hall of Fame. After college, Bob continued to play competitively as an original member of the successful Lawrence Merchants semi-pro team from 1963-66.
Bob was passionate about all Boston sports and going to the racetrack every week. He also enjoyed spending time with his pals attending the Celtics, the Red Sox and the Boston Marathon.
He was employed over the years by Avco Corporation in Lowell MA and Lockheed/Sanders in Nashua NH. Bob retired in 1998.
Bob is survived by his wife of 46 years, Donalda "Donna" (Fournier) Lemay; daughters Roberta Lemay of Fair Haven VT, Rebecca Lemay of Salem NH, son Al Lemay and wife Holly of Wilmington, NC; Donna's children Renee (Sirois) Ward of Manchester NH and Andrew Sirois of Manchester NH; three grandchildren, Serena, Taylor and Nikki.
He was preceded by his parents and his brother, Emile of Florida.
ARRANGEMENTS: Bob's memorial service will be held at St. Dominic Catholic Mission in Rio Verde, AZ, on Saturday, January 31st at 10 a.m., as family and friends come together in his honor. A second memorial service will take place this spring at St. Joseph Church in Salem, NH, with the date to be announced, followed by a private gathering to celebrate his life.
