Obituary of Robert L. Leslie, III
SLINGERLANDS – Robert L. Leslie III, 93, a native of Albany, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2023, at Albany Medical Center. He was the son of the late Robert L. Jr. and Grace (McClelland) Leslie.
Bob graduated from The Milne School in 1948, received his bachelor's degree from Colgate University in 1952 and then served, and was honorably discharged, as a special agent in the U.S. Army Counterintelligence Corp from 1954 to 1957. Bob retired in 1992 after a career in trust and investment banking from Norstar Bank Upstate New York as a vice president and trust officer.
He enjoyed history, especially the history of Albany, traveling, reading, the mountains, lakes and being outdoors. He skied well into his eighties, enjoyed golf, kayaking and walking.
Bob was a man of strong faith and a lifetime communicant of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church where he ushered and often served as treasurer on their Vestry. He also served on the Boards of the Hudson Valley Girl Scout Council, Child's Hospital, the Guardian Society, the Estate Planning Council of Eastern New York and was past president of the Investment Society of Northeastern New York. Bob was a Boy Scout troop leader and a ski patroller at Hickory Mountain. He was a member of Albany Country Club and Normanside Country Club.
He is survived by his loving wife Ramona (Peterson) Leslie with whom he recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Bob is also survived by their children Sharon (Andy) Giordano of Delmar, Heather Rooney of Rensselaer, and Robert P. (Ruth) Leslie of Delmar. He leaves behind nine beautiful grandchildren, Nicholas (Brittany) Giordano, Laurie (Robert) Borkowski, Amy (Christopher) Stewart, Alyssa Giordano, Bridget (Alex Rodgers) and Kelly Rooney, Shannon (Ian) McClellan, Taylor and Sean Leslie. Cherished great grandchildren Dylan, Kennedy, Isla, Rory, Raegan and Graham and several nieces and nephews. Bob leaves his brother Donald (Sandy) Leslie and Sister-in-law Ellen Leslie. He was predeceased by his sister Barbara Lindstadt and his brother Douglas Leslie.
Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life Service at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 10 North Main Ave., Albany on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at 9:30 am. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens.
