Robert Luger Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Grandstrand Funeral Home & Cremation Service - Lindstrom on Jul. 25, 2025.
Robert (Bob) K. Luger, Jr., a longtime resident of the Lindstrom area, passed away in Custer, SD, on Friday, July 25, 2025, at the age of 85. Bob was born on June 13, 1940, in Maple Grove, MN, to Robert and Inez Luger (née Carlson). He graduated from Chi Hi in 1958. On February 4, 1967, he married Virginia Lifgren at Zion Lutheran Church. Bob worked in telephone communications and also farmed.

Bob was the kindest man you could ever meet, with the biggest smile, and was always willing to lend a hand. He enjoyed horseback riding (which he continued until age 84), building a wide range of useful items, collecting rocks for the many rock gardens he created over the years, reading Louis L'Amour, watching John Wayne movies, and spending time with family and friends. In his younger years, there wasn't a telephone pole he wouldn't climb to exchange a unique insulator with a standard one he always kept in his truck-along with his climbing spikes. He worked as a telephone lineman across the Midwest in his early 20s, developing a fondness for the Dakotas. He then returned to the Lindstrom area and settled into work with the local telephone company before being drafted into the Army, where he served in Korea. After returning home, he continued his work with the telephone company and took early retirement to run his buffalo farm full-time. He was an active member of the Minnesota Bison Association, Almelund Volunteer Fire Department, and the VFW for many years.

Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife, Virginia; his parents, Robert and Inez; his brothers, Rodney and Ross Luger; his stepson, Steven Lifgren and daughter-in-law Elaine Lifgren. He is survived by his daughters, Shelli (Eric) Ness and Connie Luger; sisters, Marsha Carlson and Maxine (Ray) Gallett; grandchildren, Abbey (Will), Andrew (Kristin), Miranda, Melinda, and Amelia; great-grandchildren, Connor, Riley, Bailey, Henry, Harrison, and Ezekiel; and his dear friend, Heather Cameron.
