BRISTOL - It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Robert J. MacDonald, age 85, of Bristol, share the news of his unexpected passing on Friday, July 25th, 2025, at Bristol Hospital surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Maureen (Coyle) MacDonald.

Robert was born in Brookline, MA, on June 17, 1940, to the late Joseph and Dorothy (Durante) MacDonald. He was a graduate of Harwich High School, and proudly served his country as a Corporal in the United States Marines. Robert worked for 18 years and retired from Southbury Training School, where he worked as an aide in cottage 34. After retirement, Maureen and Robert ran a coffee house in the community room where they lived. He volunteered his time at the Bristol Senior Center, and could often be found watching T.V., along with cheering on the Red Sox. Nothing brought him more happiness than the time he spent with his family, especially his cherished grandchildren where countless memories were made. Robert’s legacy lives on in the stories he shared, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave so freely. His life was a testament to the power of family, the strength of compassion, and the joy of simple pleasures. May he rest in eternal peace, forever remembered and never forgotten.

Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory. besides his devoted wife, Maureen are his children; Kenneth (Chris) MacDonald, Charlie (Michele, Luke, and Jenna) MacDonald, Susan (Carlos) Rodriguez, and Kathleen (Gary) Maheu. Robert and Maureen were blessed with 7 grandchildren, Joey, Christopher, Emily, Patty, CJ, Zachary, and Keri, and 3 great grandchildren, David, Jane, and Felicity Joy. Robert also leaves his brothers; Daniel MacDonald, Donald Cooke, and Jeffrey Cooke, along with several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his grandchildren, Ashley MacDonald, and Sara Maheu, his brothers, Rodney, Kenneth, and Allen MacDonald.
