Robert Tamayo Maldonado beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away in the early hour of May 29 2025. His devoted loving wife and dedicated son were by his side.
Robert was born in San Antonio, Texas on March 10, 1936. The Maldonados were seven generation Texans. His father was Porfidio Maldonado and his mother was Librada Tamayo.
He is survived by his dear loving wife Cora Torres Maldonado, a retired school teacher with Texas City Independent School district and his devoted sons Robert Lawrence and Timothy Lance, and a cherished grandchild Jonathan Maldonado and his devoted wife Ashley. He was a proud great-grandfather to Jonathan's children, Leighton and Christian Maldonado. He is also survived by two brothers: Louis Maldonado and his dear wife Mary; Edward Maldonado and his loving wife Cyndy. Wonderful nieces and nephews and their children completed Robert's survivorship.
Robert grew up in Galveston, Texas and attended Galveston public schools. After high school, Robert joined the U.S. Marines. He only served for a brief period due to an auditory medical issue. That situation broke his heart because he came from a proud family of five brothers that all served in the United States military.
Robert had a great work ethic. He worked for Todd's Shipyard as the tool room supervisor until the yard closed. Robert was a dedicated member of the national machinist union and a past president. He took his participation in the union to heart and felt advocating for union and non-union members important. During his tenure at Todd's Shipyard, Robert led a union strike that resulted in many benefits for all the workers regardless of their union or non-union status. After the shipyard closed, he worked as a machinist in the petrochemical industry until his retirement.
Robert had a deep passion for hobbies: deer, dove, and duck hunting with family and friends especially his father-in-law. Then, Badminton was a pleasure. He participated at the "Y" with the "Lunch Bunch" and embarked on a full day of the sport.
Later years, Robert became very skilled at woodworking. Robert created beautiful intricate pieces that Cora, a decorative artist, would paint. Some items would find their way to annual holiday local craft sales events.
Robert was a proud Mason and a dutiful Shriner. He belonged to the Dickinson and Texas City lodges. He felt so honored to proudly serve in various offices of both lodges.
