Robert C. "Finny" Manninen, 77, husband of Theresa A. (Rodolosi) Manninen of Gloucester, passed away on Thursday evening, September 24, 2015 at Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Rockport, MA on April 7, 1938, son of the late Moses and Anna (Salo) Manninen. In his early years, Robert was an apprentice plumber with his brother George "Moe" Manninen and later worked for 33 years as an iron worker at Gloucester Engineering. Upon his retirement, he worked as a custodian for the Gloucester Public School System. Finny was a member of the Cape Ann Combine, having showed and raced homing pigeons over the years. He had a love of all birds, which led him to start making bird houses as a hobby. He also enjoyed being an avid hunter and lobsterman. He served in the United States Army. Bob brightened up the neighborhood with his light display during the Holiday for his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father and the best Papa to his grandchildren. The family would like to thank Seacoast Nursing Home for their compassionate care of their loved one and the friends they made during this difficult time. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Theresa A. Manninen of Gloucester; 2 daughters, Michelle Rose and her husband Christopher and his children, Jessica, Lindsay and Chelsea all of Manchester-by-the-Sea, Annmarie Wonson and her husband Mark and their children, Meaghan and Michael all of Rockport; his son, Robert "Bobby" Manninen of Gloucester; 2 sisters, Sylvia Buchanan and Miriam "Mimi" Mentzell; 5 brothers-in-law, Laurant Rodolosi, Daniel Rodolosi and his wife Vincie, Vincent Rodolosi and his wife Diane, Antoine Rodolosi and Jacque Rodolosi; his four legged babies, Brandy and Lola and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by 4 brothers, George Manninen, David Manninen, Ricky Manninen and Walter Manninen; 2 sisters, Helen Taylor and Eleanor Michon; his mother and father-in-law, Nicola and Philomena Rodolosi and sister-in-law, Catherine "Kay" Rodolosi. His Memorial Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church on Wednesday, September 30th at 9:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester. Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester will be held on Tuesday from 4 – 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O.
