Robert Mannix Obituary
A Graveside service with full military honors will be held in the Summer of 2021.
The family asks those that would like to make a contribution in Burns' memory to kindly consider the VFW Post 6200, PO Box 1, Ovid, NY 14521.
Burns was born on June 6, 1936, a son of the late Robert E. and Dorothy (McCardle) Mannix. Following his graduation from Ovid High School, he proudly served in the US Navy from 1954 to 1958. Upon his return, he attended Simmons Institute of Mortuary Science in Syracuse and then worked as a research histologist at Cornell University. Burns then attended the Willard School of Nursing, and followed a long career there as a registered nurse. Burns was a life member of the Manning-Lilla American Legion Post #463.
He is survived by his children Jennifer (Susan Bluer) of San Francisco, Calif. and Thomas Mannix of Palm Springs, Calif.; his siblings Michael (Jan) of Clinton, Ill., Patrick "PJ" (Sara) of Gainesville, Fla., and Kevin (Peggy) Mannix of Fort Myers, Fla; his nieces and nephews and their families; and the mother of his children, Maureen Augustine of Palm Springs, Calif.
Burns was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, John " Rocco" Mannix in 1998.

Remember Burns with great fondness. Always remember the story of his running into Eugene in Italy when they were in the military.

Burnsie, one of the greats from Ovid that made Ovid and Willard a special place during the 50's 60's and 70's and beyond. I remember him getting his nursing license, going back to Ovid High to take a few courses and going on to help others. Always a good guy, you will be missed by many.

Burns was a good friend for many years. We spent many good times with the family. Such good memories. So many laughs and so many tears were shared by our families. He will be missed. Sending hugs to all his family. With love, Carl and Gail Christensen
