Robert McCarthy, 61, of Huston Road in Gorham, passed away at his home on Monday, April 22, 2024 after a brutal battle with Cancer. His beloved wife Rebecca was present when he passed.
Bob was born in West Norwalk, Connecticut. He was raised in a loving home where he was especially close to his mother. There he learned the importance and value of hard work, faith, loyalty, and the joy one can gain from helping others. These values served Bob well his entire life. In his early life in rural Connecticut Bob especially enjoyed caring for horses and was active in Rodeo events. Later Bob learned the HVAC trade and worked countless hours day or night repairing and installing heating and AC systems in that area. In the mid 90's Bob and his son Robert moved to Maine where Bob quickly established himself in the HVAC trade in the Portland area. Later, Bob decided to work at Confidential Destruction in Westbrook, performing document destruction for numerous clients around the state. In 2000 Bob transferred to Northeast Paper Services and later NEPW Logistics, first as a warehouse operator and later as a Lead Mechanic and Repair person, specializing in the pneumatic, hydraulic, and HVAC systems. He was still employed there at the time of his death. One of the primary reasons Bob wanted to survive Cancer was his desire to get back to work and contribute to the company and assisting his fellow employees. No matter where he worked Bob was a loyal, productive, and respected employee. He will be greatly missed by all his coworkers.
Bob loved his home in Gorham. When not at work or helping someone with their furnace, air conditioner, or heat pump, Bob could be found working in his yard, feeding the birds, or harvesting vegetables from his garden or greenhouse, or just hanging out with his dogs. He loved the rural setting of his home and chose its yard as his final resting place.
Bob is survived by his wife of 22 years, Rebecca; son Robert, in Yarmouthport, Massachusetts, a daughter, Breanna, in St Petersburg Florida; stepsons, Kenneth, in South Portland, Jason, in Portland and Jeremy, in St Petersburg, Florida. Bob is also survived by his brother, Danny, of Norwalk CT, and two sisters, Sherry and Doreen. Bob was always very outgoing and friendly and left many friends behind. He will certainly be missed by many; including his close friends the Cameron's, Matt, Mia, and Priya.
Bob's family and friends want to formally thank Dr. Vatche Tchekmedyian and his staff at the Maine Medical Partners Cancer Care Center in South Portland. Dr. T and his staff gave Bob hope in his last months and for that we will be forever grateful. One of Bob's primary concerns as he faced Cancer, was for Rebecca's welfare should he pass. Any contribution offered in his honor to support her would be greatly appreciated.
A visitation and gathering of friends and family to honor his life will be held on Tuesday, April 30 from 4:00 to 6:00PM at Dolby, Blais, Segee Funeral Home at 434 River Road, Windham. A funeral service, conducted by Bob's friend and pastor David Reese, will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 4:00 PM. All who knew Bob are welcome to attend.
