A funeral service for Robert "Bobby" Theo McCartney, Jr, of Rainbow City, will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Riddles Bend Baptist Church, 5574 Riddles Bend Road, Rainbow City, AL 35906, preceded by a visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Rev. Chris Crain and Dr. Jay Stewart will officiate. Burial will follow at Williams Southside Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Collier-Butler Funeral Home.
Bobby passed away on January 6, 2023 after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia/Parkinsons. He was a graduate of Etowah High School Class of 1967 and Jacksonville State University in 1978. Bobby was employed with Bell-System and after 38 years retired as an AT&T Engineer. His hobbies included playing softball, working with his horses, collecting and working on John Deer Tractors, spending time on the river with his family and serving the Lord in many capacities including mission work in the U S and abroad. He was a member of Riddles Bend Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He also, served as Rainbow City Councilman for 16 years.
He most loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and his beloved wife of 53 years.
Bobby was preceded in death by his father, Robert Theo McCartney, Sr. and mother, Mildred McCartney, beloved nephew, Blake Winningham and brother-in-law, John Little.
Survivors include his wife, Donna McCartney; children, Kim (Chris) Hummel and Kyle (Annie) McCartney; grandchildren, Mac, Natalie and Grace Hummel and Morgan and Marlie McCartney; sisters, Artie (David) Winningham and Pam Little; brother, Todd (Karen) McCartney; brother-in-law, Coy (Gloria) Johnson, Perry (Yolanda) Johnson and Paul (Lenell) Johnson and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Brian Winningham, Brandon Johnson, David Winningham, Perry Johnson, David Elam and Jason Millirons.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Coy Johnson, Paul Johnson, Rick Johnson, Vernon Lee, Steve Carter, Dan Childs, Jack Carter, Glenn Ford and John Hatley. Additionally, we want to honor the mighty men of faith who walked with Bobby throughout his life. We thank you with all of our hearts.
We give special thanks to Dr. James Tuck (friend and physician), his caregivers (Amy Vaugh, Velma Gibbs, Rick Johnson, Kala Moyers, Val Caldwell, Rose Scott); Lakeside Hospice (Tracey, Crystal and Kendra); Community Hospice (Angie and Savannah) and the Regency Place Managements Team (Janice, Keith, Heather and Drake). Your love and dedication provided unmeasurable comfort during this difficult time.
The family will receive flowers or memorials may be made in Bobby's memory to Etowah Baptist Disaster Relief Fund or White Springs Baptist Church Honduras Mission Fund.
