Robert Staton McCelvey, 64, of 13905 Pennsylvania Avenue, Hagerstown, MD, passed away, Monday, November 21, 2022, at 7711 Hillmeade Road.

Born Wednesday, December 25, 1957 in Houston, TX, he was the son of Sydney Vallentyne of Bowie, MD and the late Robert McCelvey.

Robert was a jack of all trades whose interests spanned from the fine arts to construction and automobiles. In his youth, Mr. McCelvey sang in the choir at the National Cathedral, and remained spiritual throughout his life. He also was a gifted metallurgist and made several sculptures from metal. His welding talents also were highly valued in his ability to fix heavy equipment, including cranes, tractors, and recycling machinery, as well as buses, trucks, and automobiles. Self-taught, his multiple talents were motivated by an almost endless curiosity to learn how everything worked. Outside of cars and mechanics, he also enjoyed gardening, music, dancing and spending time with his family, friends, and pets. He was an exceptional man, husband, father, and brother, and will be missed.

He is survived by his wife Maria Fittro, daughter, Priscilla L. McCelvey of Washington, DC, son, Patrick S. McCelvey of Hagerstown, MD, mother, and brothers, George F. McCelvey of Brownsville, MD and John McCelvey of South Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Carol McCelvey.

Family will receive friends at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Services and interment will be private.
