Robert Matthew McConaghy, Sr., age 77, longtime resident of City Island, died on October 9, 2024. Rob was born in the Bronx to Robert Francis and Martha (Tully) McConaghy on December 15, 1946 and attended St. Mary's Star of the Sea grade school before becoming a member of Cardinal Spellman High School's inaugural graduating class. He subsequently earned a Bachelors in Business Administration from St. John's University in 1969, where he began a lifelong passion for St. John's basketball. Following in his father's footsteps, Rob pursued a career as a Bill Poster for Sale Point Posters, where he worked from 1969 until his retirement in 1992. He later began a second career as a doorman for the River House apartment complex in Bronxville, where he worked until the spring of 2024. Rob was also heavily involved in his community as a soccer coach and board member for New Rochelle Youth Soccer and a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 6, also in New Rochelle. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary's Star of the Sea RC Church in City Island. Rob will be remembered for his love of family, sports, animals, lighthouses and his beloved Cape May, NJ. He is survived by Elizabeth (Fennel), his wife of 53 years, children Robert (Stephanie), Brian (Jennifer), Kristin and Erin, and his grandchildren Meghan, Andrew, Kevin, Nicholas, Ella and Jack. Rob's family will receive visitors on Thursday, October 10, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel in New Rochelle. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary's Star of the Sea RC Church at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 11.
