Robert (Bob) Donald McCord was born April 30, 1937, in Atlanta, Texas. He went to be with the Lord, on June 10, 2024. Bob was the son of Robert Oland and Elizabeth Ophelia McCord and was raised in Cornett, Texas where he learned the value and merits of hard work, caring for others (including animals), and the rewards of trusting in the Lord. He was the oldest of three siblings including Jim McCord of College Station, Texas and Kay Griffin of Charlottesville, Virginia.
Bob married Anne Marie (Lummus) McCord on April 15, 1960, in Smyrna, Texas. They shared life's journey together until Anne departed this earth on December 14, 2018, to join her Savior in advance of Bob. Bob and Anne had two children including Chris McCord (wife Angie) of The Woodlands, Texas, and Cheryl McCord of Fairplay, Colorado. He also has two grandchildren including Brock McCord (wife Alexandria) of Conway, Arkansas and Blair Rincones (husband Mauricio) of San Antonio, Texas.
He also in later years was wed to Joan Birmingham of Atlanta, Texas who also went on in advance of him to be with her Savior.
Bob was a graduate of Hughes Springs High School and Texas A&M University before becoming a career educator serving multiple roles to assist students in a variety of ways as a Teacher, Principal, Curriculum Director, and Assistant Superintendent. His career included service to the Texas school districts of Daingerfield, Kilgore, Terrell, and Atlanta. In his tenure as an educator in Texas he was instrumental in the development of countless students and efforts to pass bond issues to provide facilities for children. He was pivotal in the construction of the current Atlanta I.S.D. athletic complex. Additionally, he was an active member of Atlanta First Baptist Church where he enjoyed worship, engaging with friends, and he relished a stint where he was able to serve as a 20-year Sunday school teacher. His contributions to the FBC of Atlanta included the construction process to the current Family Life Center.
Ultimately, Bob was a very successful rancher with a love of cattle and specifically the Brangus breed. He had a talent for developing traits in cattle desired by customers and a knack for what it took to keep cows healthy, and for the most part, inside the fences.
