With a heavy heart, we share the news that Robert Milton McElravy passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning, October 12th.
Born October 17, 1955, Rob was the son of Robert D. and Shirley (Breniman) McElravy. He was preceded in death by his father and brothers, Mike and Scott.
Raised in Paint Township, Rob attended Clarion Area Schools. After graduating in 1973, Rob (Mac to his friends) took off on a grand tour of the United States. Upon returning, he attended Williamsport Area Community College, acquired a degree and worked in Forestry. He later worked for Rankin Auction Services while attending Clarion University to attain a B.S. in Science Education.
Rob taught at Great Mills High School in Maryland and Solanco High School in Lancaster, PA, until making his way back to Clarion County to finish his career at North Clarion High School. "Mr. Mac" instilled in many students a life-long love of learning and had a special ability to reach those students less inclined to be successful in a traditional setting. He inspired many to go on and become educators themselves. Nominated by students, Rob was a Multiple Year Honoree in Who's Who Among America's Teachers.
After retiring, Rob most enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, having a beer with buddies, and spending time with his family.
Rob is survived by his wife, Kathy, his sons Clayton and Milton, both of whom he adored and was so proud, and his mother Shirley McElravy, an inspirational teacher as well. He is also survived by his nephew Evan McElravy, with whom he shared a special bond, Aunt Jo Breniman, mother-in-law Dorothy Rice, in-laws Mary Jean and Nick Bagileo, Janet Rice and Mickey Scicutella, Sherrie and Brad Smith, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Rob loved deeply, was generous to a fault, and had a great sense of humor. He will be missed by many, yet those who knew him will find solace in celebrating a life well lived, and who are grateful for the way Rob made them feel. He has left the world a better place.
A private family mass will be celebrated later this week.
Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory in Clarion.
To honor his memory, friends are encouraged to perform a random act of kindness. For those more inclined to the traditional, consider a donation to the Clarion Fire & Hose Company #1, P.O. Box 226, Clarion, PA 16214.
