Colonel Robert William McLaughlin, 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at home in Austin, Texas surrounded by his family. Bob was born in Providence, RI to Andrew William McLaughlin and Helen May (Heron) McLaughlin.

Bob graduated from Providence College with a BA History. He served in the US Army, Infantry, and was a recipient of the Bronze Star with two courageous tours in Vietnam. He retired from the Army in 1984.

Bob is survived by his daughters Barbara Stephens (Robert) of Peachtree City, GA; Robin O'Connor (Jim) of Austin, TX; and Dana Tripoli of Pensacola,FL, and his brother Gerald McLaughlin (Marianne) Lakewood Ranch, FL. Heis preceded in death by his son Robert William McLaughlin, Jr., brothers John, Donald, Raymond, and his loving wife Nancy Caryol Parsons McLaughlin. He leaves behind seven grandchildren Sarah Wilbrandt, Rachel Stephens, Amanda Macon, Zachery Tripoli, Patrick O'Connor, Michael O'Connor and Timothy O'Connor. Bob also leaves six great grandchildren: Eleanor, AnneMarie and Luke Wilbrandt; Olivia and McCarron Macon; and Brayden Tripoli.

Bob enjoyed traveling, especially a long road trip, and has lived in many states during his life including Rhode Island, California, Alaska, Florida,

Alabama, North Carolina and Texas. He loved to read, especially history and did in-depth research into family genealogy. He always wanted to hike the

Appalachian trail.

We are grateful for the caring help of Blue Water Hospice. A family graveside memorial service will be held at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter, RI

April 30, 2026.
