Robert (Bob) Kirkman McMain, Sr., 88, passed away in Rio Rancho, NM on May 7, 2024. He was born April 30, 1936, to Albert T. McMain, Sr. and Frances B. (Hollomon) McMain, the third of ten children.
Bob was an avid camper, hiker, car enthusiast, traveler, but most importantly a teacher devoted to passing on life’s most important lessons. He loved running and meeting people along the way through his life’s journey. He enjoyed visiting family around the country. Bob was involved with New Mexico Men's Wellness and the Association for Couples in Marriage Enrichment (ACME) groups. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels and at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore.
He was a Professor of Social Work, Fresno State University (Retired). Bob received his Doctor of Philosophy from UNM and Master of Social Work from Wayne State University and was a member of American Group Psychotherapy Association.
He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings; Albert T. McMain, Jr., Nancy E. Gerhard, Baby girl McMain, Frank V. McMain, Peter R. McMain, brother-in-law Herb F. Gerhard and his beloved son Robert (Kirk) K. McMain, Jr.
Bob leaves behind his cherished wife of over 50 years, Deanna Goodrich McMain of the home, their children: Melodie (Dave) Breitkreutz, Leoti, KS; Sharaine (Randall) Roberts, Rio Rancho, NM; Nancy (Bill) Hedges, Niceville, FL; Scott Rawlinson (Lisa Theisen), Albuquerque, NM; and Elizabeth (Tom) Curran, Fishersville, VA; daughter-in-law Christine McMain, Colorado Springs, CO; Siblings: James (Penny) McMain, Rochester Hills, MI; Michael McMain, Atlanta, GA; David McMain, Hancock; MI; Lucy (Curt) Winn, Albuquerque, NM; sisters-in-law Elaine Wolfe, La Jolla, CA; and Mary Peschka, Las Cruces, NM. Grandfather to three and Great-grandfather to seven.
Bob McMain was a beloved son, husband, brother, father, uncle and friend to many and will be greatly missed by all!
