Robert McPhaul, the son of the late Artee and Amey Thompson McPhaul, was born January 16, 1951. He entered into eternal rest on October 14, 2025 at the Greensville Health and Rehabilitation Center in Emporia, VA. Robert, affectionately known as "Ricky" received his education in the Greenville County public schools, Class of 1969.

He attended Royal Baptist Church in Emporia VA until he entered the military. Robert served in the U.S. Army until he retired in October 1995 as the rank of master sergeant.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 47. Also, he counseled and assisted veterans on benefits and health care.

He joined First Baptist Church Petersburg and was a member of the Usher Board.

Robert loved traveling, watching westerns and sports. He was a big Washington Redskins/ Commanders fan and collector.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Gaines, five brothers and two sisters: Alton McPhaul Sr., Roland Forbes, Leroy Forbes, Ronnie Forbes, Reginald Forbes Sr., Lucilla Jones, Dorothy Robinson, and 1 grandchild Jayden McPhaul.

Robert leaves to cherish his memories of love, his children Erika Escobar, Freeman ,VA, Robert K. McPhaul II, Greensboro, NC, Charmaine Gaines and Tony (T'Lana) Gaines all of Richmond, VA; 8 grandchildren Erik Escobar, William Gaines Jr., Chelsea Gaines, Aysia Gaines., Javon Gaines, Davon Gaines, and Ahli Sledge; one sister Alvina Joyner; He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends
