Robert "Bob" D. McPhie, 76, passed away on August 10, 2025, in his hometown at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain, Ohio. Born on January 28, 1949, to his loving parents, Malcolm and Eileen McPhie, Bob's life was a testament to dedication, hard work, and the joy of simple pleasures. Bob was a proud graduate of St. Mary's High School, Class of 1967, where he not only excelled academically but also left an indelible mark on the athletic field. As the captain of the undefeated and conference champion football team of 1966, he demonstrated leadership and sportsmanship that would be remembered for generations. His athletic prowess and commitment to the team earned him a place in the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame in 2010, a recognition he cherished deeply. After high school, Bob pursued a career as a machinist at U.S. Steel, dedicating 34 years of service. Bob's work ethic was unmatched, and his loyalty to his profession was evident to all who worked alongside him. He married his loving wife, Vicki (nee McCord) McPhie, on April 30, 1993. Bob's interests were diverse and enriched his life with joy and fulfillment. An avid pickleball player, his love for crossword puzzles, and his passion for traveling allowed him to explore new places. A lifelong Cleveland sports fan, Bob's enthusiasm for his teams was infectious, and his unwavering support for the Ohio State Buckeyes was a source of great pride. He was a member of Lorain IAV Post 1 and Lorain Amvets Post 47. Bob's camaraderie and service to these organizations reflected his deep respect for those who had served their country, and he was a cherished member of both groups. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Vicki McPhie; stepsons, Brian (Carrie) Snipe and Christopher (Julie) Stipe; grandchildren, William, Rylee, Keegan, Cody, Kendall, Caroline, and Jackson; step grandchildren, Clarissa, Rachel, Zach, Cassidy, and Brielle; brothers, Gus (Dodie), Joe (Maribeth), and Bill (Barbara); and sister, Cathie (Herb) Watling. He was preceded in death by his parents, Malcolm and Eileen (nee Diewald) McPhie; brothers, Dick and Jim (Toni) McPhie; nephew, Brett McPhie; and in-laws, Billy and Janie McCord.
