Robert “Smoky” Mellott, age 88, of Needmore, PA, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born May 30, 1936, in Needmore, PA, he was the son of the late Ralph W. Mellott and Emmer Deshong, and the wife of the late Margaret Ellen Mellott whom he married May 10, 1959, at the Hancock Assembly of God.
Robert was a graduate of Needmore School.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Otis Pipeline and Michal’s Pipeline. He was a lifetime member of the Operating Engineers Local 66 Union and Local 542 Operating Engineers Union. While home, he enjoyed working on his dairy farm, fishing, and hunting in the mountains.
Robert is survived by two sons, Perry Allan Mellott and wife Lorinda and Joseph Adam Mellott and wife Melissa all of Needmore, PA; four grandchildren, Jason Mellott, Christina Mellott, Michael Mellott, and Owen Thomas; three great grandchildren, Grace Arany, Benjamin Arany IV, and Katie Mellott; and one brother Billy Mellott.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Hazel Sipes.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 24, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Grove-Rogowski Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, MD 21750.
A funeral service will be held at Bethel Community Church, 788 Bethel Church Rd, Warfordsburg, PA 17267 on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with one hour visitation prior. Reverend Gary Quackenbos will officiate.
The family requests that memorial contributions in Robert’s name may be made to Bethel Community Church, c/o Rev. Gary Quackenbos, 788 Bethel Church Rd, Warfordsburg, PA 17267.
