Robert Owen Merson

Robert Owen Merson, age 88, of Hanover, Maryland, passed away peacefully at his home on March 14, 2026.Born on August 14, 1937, in Jessup, Maryland, Robert was the son of the late Clarence Owen Merson and Esther Ruth Merson (Disney).

For 65 years, Robert was the beloved husband of Maud Melissa Merson (Schaeffer), the love of his life.A devoted and loving father, Robert is survived by Robin Merson (Zeena), John Merson, and Melanie McKenzie (James). He was a proud grandfather to Joshua (Shannon), Tessa, Kacee, Shane, and Caleb Merson, and a cherished great-grandfather to three beautiful great-granddaughters: Ellianna, Lucy, and Kenley.

A man of deep faith and integrity, Robert lived a life centered on service. As a faithful member of Odenton Baptist Church, he served the Lord in every way possible. Prior to that, Robert was a longtime member of Faith Bible Church in Elkridge, Maryland, where many years were spent serving in various roles. Teaching Sunday School brought particular joy, and through that ministry, many young lives were touched. As Robert met his Savior, there is comfort in imagining the words, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”

For over 60 years, Robert worked as a brick mason, taking great pride in his craftsmanship and dedication to his trade. In retirement, time was happily spent “piddling” in the garage and caring for the yard and garden.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by siblings James Merson, Bertha Youse, Adelaide Harless, Shirley Coon, Paul Merson, and Philip Merson. Surviving are sisters Mary Bromwell and Ann Puffenberger, with the promise of a joyful reunion in heaven.

Friends may visit at Odenton Baptist Church, 8410 Piney Orchard Parkway, Odenton, MD 21113, on Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will begin at the church from 11:00AM to 1:00PM. Internment to follow at Bethel Cemetery Fort Meade Maryland.

Robert Owen Merson's life was a shining example of devotion to family, faith, and craftsmanship. He leaves behind a legacy of love and service that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory endures in the hearts of his family and the countless lives he touched throughout his years of faithful service.
