Robert Miskimen Obituary

Robert Stanley Miskimen passed away on Friday, July 29, 2022 at the age of 79. A service will be held Monday, Aug. 22 at 11 a.m. at Woyasz and Son Funeral Service, 11 Jerome Rd. Montville, CT. There will be a lunch following the service. Robert was born on Feb. 23, 1943 In Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Darrell C. Miskimen and Thyra Nesset. He graduated from Jefferson High School where he played football and was in theater. Robert married Patricia Panus on June 2, 1984. The couple enjoyed 38 years of marriage while living in Iowa and Connecticut over the multiple decades. He also attended the University of Iowa where he obtained his Master’s Degree in 1988. He went on to work in several human service agencies over the years including the Department of Human Services and Polk County Mental Health Services providing out-patient therapy and substance abuse treatment. Over the course of his career, Robert helped many people. He cherished the friendships with many of his co-workers. Robert was also an Army veteran who served during the Vietnam War and was awarded a Purple Heart in 1969. Toward the end of his life, he was able to accept “Thank you for your service� and be proud of his military service to his country. Robert was a busy and talented man with many interests. In 2004, he was inducted into the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for his time as a bass player for The Prophets/Linn County. He was known for being an avid collector of antiques, pictures and pottery. A handyman, he did a lot of woodworking and loved to remodel homes. He even once opened an ice cream shop in West Des Moines’ Valley Junction called the SodaJerk and learned to make great ice cream. He loved to try new things, take road trips and he was proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren, wanting them to have the best life. He is survived by his wife Patricia; three sons, Kurt Miskimen of Texas, Todd Miskimen (Laura) of Marion, Iowa, Kent Miskimen (Shelley) of Marion, Iowa, daughter, Kelly Kellerhals (Jeffery) of Marion, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, Kia, Rylan (Cande), Trace, Gage, Tai, Maggie, Teagan, Halen, Casey, Clapton and Jovi; five great-grandchildren, Hunter, Abel, Ryker, Grace and Faith; Three siblings, Darrell C. Miskimen of Arizona, Richard Nesset of Texas and Kathleen Francis of Washington. Robert also enjoyed spending time with his many nieces and nephews and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Delise Stone; his parents and stepfather Art Nesset; and his siblings, William Steffy, Beverly Andrews, Joyce Kubik, Tom Miskimen, Audry Nesset, Clarence Nesset and Allan Nesset. In lieu of flowers, the family asks those who wish to donate to the American Heart Association, the American Legion or Wounded Warriors in his name.
